Lehigh Carbon Community College (LCCC) offers an Associate in Applied Science degree in PhysicalTherapist Assistant (PTA) which is highly competitive,filling the class each fall. The curriculum is intense and comprehensive. The program prepares the graduate to work under the supervision and direction of a licensed physical therapist in performing physical therapy treatments that include: therapeutic exercise, various modalities, self- care activities, gait training, neurological rehabilitation,orthotic and prosthetic devices, and education. It also prepares the graduate to pass the national licensure examination for physical therapist assistants (NPTAE). Graduates are qualified to work as physical therapist assistants in facilities such as acute- care hospitals, outpatient and private physical therapy practices, extended health care facilities such as skilled nursing facilities and assistedlivingfacilities,aswellasrehabilitation hospitals and children’s centers. Educating Allied Health Science Professionals In the last three years, the program has had a 100 percent employment rate within six months of graduation. LCCC’s students’ scores on the national licensure examination have exceeded the national and state mean scores in each of those years as well. Over 90% of graduates remain in the local/regional area. Most physical therapist assistants in the Mid-Atlantic reported a salary range of $45,000-$55,000 in 2016. LCCC graduates now work in local and regional healthcare agencies including Advantage Care, Blue Mountain Health System, Coordinated Health, Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network, Lehigh Valley Health Network, Sacred Heart HealthCare System, and St. Luke’s University Health Network.
