Luzerne County Community College (LCCC) is committed to adjusting its programming to meet new and emerging workforce trends. The College works collaboratively with partners to deliver programs to enhance the economic growth and community development of the region. LCCC’s programs are designed to ensure that students have multiple options for selecting a career with a self-sustaining income and broad job opportunities. The College offers a one-semester diploma program in Welding that utilizes state-of-the-art equipment and technology. Graduates of the program find employment in careers such as welder’sapprentice,maintenancerepairwelder, production welder,and pipeline assistant. LCCC recently added a Diesel Truck Technology program to meet the growing demand for diesel technicians needed to service and repair the latest generation of high Delivering Career-Ready Graduates tech diesel truck vehicles. The College offers students two options in this growing field: An 18-credit diploma program which can be completed in two semesters so that graduates can immediately begin work as entry-level technicians in preventive maintenance or as service and light repair specialists on large over-the-road trucks; and a 30-credit certificate program which adds additional academic coursework and advanced technical classes to increase students’ knowledge and skills. These two career pathways, developed in collaboration with industry partners, are also supported by local business. In 2016, MotorWorld Toyota, a local dealership, donated $20,000 to support scholarships for students in these and related programs. LCCC also offers an associate degree in Computer Information Systems and Web and Mobile Development which leads to careersasbusinessandprogrammer analysts, software developers, computer support specialists, web developers, or web designers. Job opportunities in these fields, with median salaries up to nearly $65,000,areprojectedtogrowfaster than average due to the growing popularity of mobile devices and E-commerce.
